Gravesend is a town in northwest Kent on the south bank of the Thames, opposite Tilbury in Essex.  Gravesend has one of the oldest surviving markets in the country, its earliest charter dating from 1268.  Stone Age implements have been found in the area; as has the evidence of an Iron Age settlement at nearby Springhead.

Some local people believe the town name 'Gravesend' was born when the bodies of those who died from the plague in London were buried in the town in attempts to put an end to it.  Hence the name Graves-end.  This is clearly not the case as the plague was in 1665 – a full 500 years after the name Gravesend/Gravesende was attributed to the area.

Limousines with more than 8 passenger seats

Traditionally a Limousine of this size required a COIF (Certificate of Initial Fitness) from VOSA in order to be registered and used to carry paying passengers (referred to as "use for hire or reward").  Since April 2009 it has also been possible to apply for Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) or type approval for such vehicles.  From 29 October 2010, COIF will no longer be an acceptable route to registration, except for vehicles built more than 3 months prior to this date (i.e. manufactured prior to 29th July 2010).
